The Gayatri Mantra is a Sanskrit mantra which was written down during the Vedic period (1500-500 BCE) and is considered to be one of the oldest known and most powerful mantras. The Gayatri Mantra is also known as Savitri Mantra and was composed by sage Vishwamitra which are dedicated to Agni , Indra and other gods. The Gayatri Mantra is mentioned in the Upanishads as a significant ritual and in the Bhagavad Gita as the poem of the Divine. The mantra has 24 letters corresponding to the 24 vertebrae of the
spine. The spine is what provides support and stability to the human body. Similarly, the Gayatri Mantra provides stability to our intellect. In addition, Goddess Gayatri is called Veda-Mata the other of the Vedas – Rig ,Yajur,Saam and Atharva.Goddess Gayatri is recognized to remove darkness by imparting light to our mind. Gayatri Mantra has many advantages to the human body :- it improves
concentration/ learning ; it removes toxins from the body ; it improves
breathing and functioning of the nervous system and hence calms the mind ; it
removes negativity/ stress and anxiety. Furthermore, according to Vedas, time
has 3 qualities- Satva ( Purity – 4am to 8am & 4pm to 8pm) ;Rajas (Passion
– 8am to 4pm) and Tamas (Inaction – 8pm to 4am). The Vedas mentioned that the
best time to recite Gayatri Mantra is in the satva time hence between 4am to 8
am and 4pm to 8pm.
