TAMIL NADU POLICE TARGET BJP PRESIDENT K ANNAMALAI AMIDST MURDER OUTRAGE
The Tamil Nadu Police have ignited controversy by registering an FIR against State BJP President K Annamalai and three others in the aftermath of a gruesome murder allegedly perpetrated by individuals associated with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) near Srimushnam. The incident, which occurred on April 19, 2024, in Pakkirimaniyam village, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu, saw the tragic death of a woman named Gomathi, purportedly at the hands of DMK-affiliated assailants. Reports suggest that Gomathi was targeted due to her admission of voting for the BJP’s Lotus symbol in the recent elections.
The Tamil Nadu Police’s decision to file an FIR against Annamalai and others has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the impartiality of law enforcement. Critics have accused the police of attempting to deflect blame and protect the accused individuals, who allegedly have ties to the ruling DMK party.
Annamalai, in response to the FIR, condemned the incident and shared a video implicating DMK/VCK members in the assault on Gomathi. He criticized the DMK government for purportedly attempting to stifle dissent and vowed to continue advocating for justice despite facing legal challenges.
The police, however, have maintained that Gomathi’s murder resulted from a family dispute, downplaying any political motives behind the incident. They assert that the altercation between two families in the village escalated, leading to Gomathi’s tragic demise. However, Annamalai has vehemently disputed this narrative, alleging a clear political motive behind the attack due to Gomathi’s support for the BJP.
Annamalai’s remarks have further fueled the controversy, with the BJP leader accusing the police of discriminatory treatment against BJP leaders and social media activists. He highlighted what he perceives as a double standard in handling complaints against opposition figures, particularly those associated with the DMK and its allies.
