FINAL PHASE OF 2024 LOK SABHA ELECTIONS UNDERWAY WITH KEY CANDIDATES IN FRAY
The seventh and final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections is underway, with key candidates including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kangana Ranaut, Abhishek Banerjee, Misa Bharti, and Pawan Singh. Voting is taking place across 57 seats in seven states and one Union Territory. PM Modi, seeking a third term from Varanasi, is among the prominent candidates. The phase includes all 13 seats in Punjab, four in Himachal Pradesh, 13 in Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal, eight in Bihar, six in Odisha, three in Jharkhand, and Chandigarh.
Voting has been mostly peaceful, with notable figures like BJP President JP Nadda and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath casting their votes. However, violence was reported in Kolkata’s Jadavpur constituency. PM Modi urged voters to participate actively.
Candidates in this phase face direct contests, such as Modi against Ajay Rai (Congress) and Ather Jamal Lari (BSP) in Varanasi. In South Bengal, TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee faces a tough race, while Punjab sees significant candidates from multiple parties. In Bihar, Pawan Singh and Misa Bharti are among the key figures.
Over 10.06 crore voters are eligible, with facilities in place for a smooth voting process. The previous six phases saw varied voter turnout, and this phase concludes the extensive polling process that began on April 19. Campaigning featured sharp exchanges between the BJP and the opposition, focusing on issues like corruption, dynastic politics, and farmer policies. Counting of votes will occur on June 4.
