MANIPUR CM CONCERNED ABOUT NEW VILLAGES FROM MYANMAR IMMIGRATION

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has raised concerns over the emergence of 996 new villages in the state since 2006, attributing this phenomenon to massive influx from Myanmar. Singh emphasized that this influx of “illegal immigrants belonging to the kuki-Zo community” from Myanmar has led to the destruction of significant forest cover for settlement and poppy plantations. He highlighted the detrimental impact of this illegal immigration on the demography of Manipur, stating that it has resulted in encroachment on resources, job opportunities, land, and rights of indigenous people.

“Will anyone accept the unnatural growth of new villages and population, causing massive changes to the demography in their own state or country due to the influx of illegal immigrants? “, he wrote on his X handle.
