The G20 Summit held in New Delhi in September 2023 marked a significant moment for Mauritius, as Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi led discussions on pressing global issues alongside leaders from countries like Singapore, Bangladesh, Italy, the USA, Brazil, Argentina, Mauritius, and the UAE. One notable highlight of this summit was the launch of the Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA), an initiative championed by India, the G20 Chair. The alliance with the United States and Brazil as its founding members would help accelerate Global efforts to meet net zero emissions targets by facilitating trade in biofuels derived from sources including plant and animal waste.
The GBA aims to accelerate the global adoption of biofuels by advancing technology, promoting sustainability, and setting standards.On the global stage, Mauritius advocated for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), emphasizing the need for a responsive international financial structure and supporting initiatives like the Loss and Damage Fund. On the sidelines of the G20 Summit, the Prime Minister of Mauritius engaged in several bilateral meetings with world leaders.

Notably, he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India to discuss a range of topics, including the ongoing sovereignty talks regarding the Chagos Archipelago, collaborative projects with India, the establishment of the Ayush Centre of Excellence, the exemption provided to Mauritius for the exportation of 14,000 tons of non-basmati rice and support for the sourcing of 200 electric buses.Furthermore, Mauritius explored new avenues of cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, with discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations. The meeting with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, emphasized opportunities for collaboration in areas of shared interest, such as trade and addressing climate change, given their status as Commonwealth Partners.
Mauritius also reviewed existing bilateral cooperation with the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, focusing on infrastructure development and traditional sectors like agriculture and tourism.The summit included a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, and leaders signed the Peace Wall, reaffirming their commitment to global peace and cooperation. Mauritius’ active participation underscored its commitment to global sustainability and collaboration.
